Teachers’ organizations across Atlantic Canada and in Nunavut are coming together to outline the challenges educators are facing across the country.
To honour World Teachers’ Day, the Council of Atlantic Provinces and Territory Teachers’ Organizations, which includes Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Nunavut, have issued a joint statement to call on government to meet the needs of educators.
They say that the importance of teachers has been highlighted by the pandemic, however, it has also exacerbated the issues teachers face.
With a teaching shortage and a lack of support staff, they say many students will not have access to a rich educational experience. As well, they are calling for increased mental health support for teachers facing stress under these conditions.
