The FFAW is applauding a federal government decision to permanently extending EI sickness benefits from 15 weeks to 26 weeks starting December 18.
Federal Minister Carla Qualtrough made the announcement last week.
FFAW President Keith Sullivan says the union has been pushing for increased benefits for some time, especially for those seasonal workers who become ill during production season and risk a loss in benefits.
Alyse Stuart, a staff representative with the FFAW calls it a welcome announcement that should be part of a broader commitment to reform the EI program.
