Expect a shock when you send those Christmas parcels in the mail.
Canada Post is charging a nearly 40 per cent fuel surcharge on parcel delivery this holiday season, and that has the Canadian Tax Payers Federation crying foul.
Interim Atlantic Director with the federation, Jay Goldberg says Canada Post is poorly run.
He says Canada Post’s CEO is being paid in excess of $500,000 dollars a year, while “dozens and dozens” of executives “are getting all kinds of bonuses” yet Canada Post lost $130 million in the first quarter of this year, which is subsidized by the taxpayer.
Goldberg says Canada Post needs a “top to bottom review” of its operations to lower costs, so that customers pay less when they ship and that it weighs less on the public purse.
