The local Canadian Rangers are doing their part to help NORAD track Santa’s progress around the world each Christmas Eve.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command’s main mission is aerospace warning and control but it’s also behind the Santa Tracker on December 24.
One of the duties of the Canadian Rangers in Makkovik is to inspect the local North Warning System as part of routine northern sovereignty operations.
Ranger and Makkovik Mayor Angajukkak Barry Andersen says the local NWS is in good operation and waiting to detect Santa and his sleigh across the night sky.
The Labrador radar sight is located approximately 70 km southeast of Makkovik and they check the site twice a year to ensure it’s secure, operational, and not in need of any repair.
