The provincial government has launched a new digital Insurance Validation Program to better determine whether a vehicle is covered by insurance.
The 2019 Automobile Insurance Review found that NL had the highest costs and claims related to uninsured drivers in Atlantic Canada.
The program can automate verification with the Insurance Bureau of Canada that a vehicle’s identification number matches the information on file with Motor Registration.
The province says that provides a secure, effective and convenient way to confirm that drivers have insurance coverage when they renew their registration.
Motor Registration will also be able to check registered vehicles for insurance coverage on a monthly basis.
