Labrador Marine’s 2022 season is drawing to a close with the departure of the Kamutik W from Goose Bay to points north on Monday.
The vessel has made 26 trips to the north coast and eight to Black Tickle in the 2022 season. By the end of this trip, all freight and cargo bound for the north coast will have been delivered.
The Coast Guard icebreaker Ann Harvey was used to break a path for the Kamutik W to get the vessel out to the coast through Lake Melville.
CEO of Labrador Marine Inc, Peter Woodward, says this was the first season in three years that the service operated without COVID public health travel restrictions. As a result, private vehicle traffic increased and passenger numbers were up—signaling a return to “normal” operations. Cargo shipments were consistent with the previous year.
Passenger service will continue until the end of the season, with the possibility of weather-related delays or schedule changes. The first sailing for 2023 is scheduled for Sunday, June 11.
