2022 has been lucrative for the province’s fishing industry.
FFAW Secretary-Treasurer, Jason Spingle says the industry continues to perform well in terms of landed value in a number of fisheries.
Snow crab generated some $750 million while for the first time ever lobster reached a landed value of $100 million.
Meanwhile, Spingle says northern cod is showing promise.
He says even DFO Science is showing very low fishing mortality. He argues the TAC should be increased for that fishery even though DFO shows the overall biomass still in the critical zone.
