After months of denying interest in seeking the party’s top job, Jim Dinn has announced that he is running for the leadership of the provincial NDP. The former NLTA President and member for St. John’s Centre made the announcement before a room of supporters yesterday evening.
Dinn, who has served as interim leader since Alison Coffin stepped down, says his mind was changed in the last few months.
More and more people asked him to pursue the position permanently, and he believes the impact he can make as leader is greater than that of an MHA or ordinary citizen.
Dinn compares his decision to run for the leadership/his political ambitions to a quote from Forrest Gump: “I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floating around accidentally, like on a breeze.” @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/3nRKo4WZjB

Among his priorities are health care, climate change, and the rising cost of living—especially homelessness.
Dinn wants to know how long homeless rates can rise before something is done about it. His focus is on affordable housing and what he calls a livable wage.
