The provincial government has announced $1.4 billion dollars in spending on highway and roads infrastructure in the province over the next five years.
Premier Andrew Furey made the announcement at Colonial Building over the lunch hour.

He calls it the largest amount of spending on highway infrastructure in the history of the province over a five-year period.
$225 million of the total amount will be spend on roads work in 2023-24. He says the funding does not include federal cost-shared projects.
The premier hints at “more to come” on cost-shared agreements with the federal government.
Projects selected for the province’s roads plan each year continue to be selected based on:
• The impacts of climate change;
• Highway safety;
• Input from the department’s engineers;
• Commercial, industry, and tourism impacts;
• Traffic volumes;
• Populations serviced; and
• Input from motorists.
