The Executive Director of The Gathering Place Paul Davis has asked Metrobus to consider expanding the shelter outside the facility.
Poor driving conditions during the storm on Friday evening caused a vehicle to slide into it, causing damage to the structure.
Metrobus removed the shelter on the weekend, but there’s no immediate word on whether or not it will be replaced.
The shelter was the focus of great attention a few months ago when Metrobus posted a notice that it would be removed. That resulted in a public outcry and a subsequent agreement to leave the shelter where it was “for the time being.”
Davis says the removal of the shelter presents an opportunity for its expansion.
He’s suggesting that this is a good time to have a discussion about “a better model of what could be put back there.”
