A coyote warning has been issued for the town of Deer Lake.
Conservation officers have confirmed the presence of at least one coyote in the town.
They are conducting surveillance and monitoring activity to attempt to capture and remove the animal.
Residents are being asked to be vigilant when walking pets, to keep pets inside or closely supervise them if outside, and to properly store garbage to avoid attracting wild animals to the area.
If someone encounters a coyote they should remain calm, never approach or crowd the animal, back away slowly towards people or buildings, and never run away.
If the coyote doesn’t notice a person, they should move away slowly and quietly while it is not looking. If the coyote is aware of a person, they should respond aggressively by waving their arms, shouting, throwing objects, and maintaining eye contact.
Anyone sighting a coyote should contact the Pasadena Forest Management District Office at 709-686-2071.
