Some trial dates have been set for a young man accused of several serious, violent crimes in the past 12 months.
In the past year alone, 21-year-old Robert Belbin has been accused of stabbing and robbing a man on George Street, being party to shootings in Galway, Paradise and St. John’s, and most recently a homicide in the centre of the city.
He faces almost 50 charges, including second-degree murder in the death of Seamus Secord on Mayor Avenue in early February.

Belbin appeared in court by video from the Stephenville jail today as lawyers hashed out the complex case back in St. John’s.
They agreed on trial dates in the George Street incident, but hit a snag in the murder case, with the Crown alleging a conflict of interest involving Belbin’s lawyer.
That issue will have to be settled in Supreme Court before that matter can proceed.
In the meantime, 2 days have been set aside in July for trial in connection with the stabbing on George Street.
