The provincial government is cautioning drivers on the Northern Peninsula as caribou herds are expected to become more active in the coming weeks.
Specifically, people travelling on the road between Plum Point and the St. Anthony Airport are asked to be vigilant as a significant portion of the St. Anthony caribou herd has overwintered in that area.
Over the coming weeks, the herd will increase its daily movements as they begin movement from wintering ranges to spring calving areas.
Drivers are encouraged to scan both sides of the highway while driving, reduce speeds, avoid driving at dawn and dusk, and pay attention to caribou warning signs.
