A St. John’s man accused of killing a teenager in a Toronto subway station has been denied bail pending trial.
22-year-old Jordan O’Brien-Tobin appeared in bail court this week at Old City Hall on Queen Street West, a court clerk told VOCM.
He’ll now be held at the Toronto South Detention Centre as his case makes its way through the courts.
O’Brien-Tobin is accused of randomly stabbing a 16-year-old boy to death on the night of Saturday, March 25.
At the time, he was wanted for breaching previous court conditions in this province.
That’s just part of a lengthy criminal record, much of it racked up at home, with more serious charges laid since moving to Ontario two years ago—including assault, sexual assault and harassment.
O’Brien-Tobin has reportedly struggled with his mental health and substance abuse, and may have been homeless at the time of the subway attack.
He’s due back in court on April 21 for an update on the status of evidence disclosure and legal representation.
