Spring has arrived and that means it’s soon time to get out in the garden.
Mhairi McFarlane with the Nature Conservancy of Canada says as the snow begins to melt, it’s a perfect time to make plans for the growing season.
When it comes to gardening, she says it’s important to incorporate things that will attract and support birds and insects, but that doesn’t mean you need a huge garden.
She says something as simple as becoming familiar and taking care of any greenspace in your vicinity can be helpful to nature.
For those looking to plant a garden, McFarlane recommends using native plants wherever possible.
She says native plants are best to support native wildlife. Many gardens often have lots of plants from all over the world, which McFarlane says is pretty but does not support native wildlife.
