A Nova Scotia company has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an industrial mishap in C.B.S. almost three years ago.
Dartmouth-based Hurricane Industrial Equipment faced eight counts in connection with the incident in July 2020.
It happened at a laydown yard off Fowler’s Road in Chamberlains, which was being used as a storage and warehouse site for the Hibernia project.
A worker was doing repairs under a 7-tonne forklift when a part of it fell on him, causing serious injuries including a partially-severed hand.
The charges included failing to provide a safe workplace, as well as proper tools and instruction for workers, and failing to safely block an elevated part of equipment — instead unlawfully using a type of jack instead.
Charges against Blue Water Agencies, which owned the yard where the incident occurred, were dropped back in January.
In court this morning, lawyers for Hurricane Industrial said they had reached a resolution with the Crown.
The next step will be the formal reading of the facts followed by sentencing in early June.
