An industry analyst questions Newfoundland and Labrador applying the pricing mechanism associated with summer blend gasoline about two weeks before most other provinces go that route.
Summer blend has a different makeup to, among other things, reduce volatility but it is more costly.
Dan McTeague, President of Canadians for Affordable Energy, isn’t sure why the Public Utilities Board would apply the blend formula sooner than other jurisdictions.
It means that we in Newfoundland and Labrador end up paying more sooner than we should have. The politicians should come out and explain this, says McTeague.
