The City of St. John’s is gearing up for its annual downtown street cleaning program.
Starting Sunday, April 30 and going until Friday, September 22, vehicles must be removed from the affected streets by 10:00 p.m. on the scheduled cleaning date and can’t return until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
Unlike snow removal, the street cleaning schedule is predetermined for the entire season, and it is the responsibility of drivers to check when their street is scheduled for cleaning and move their vehicles accordingly.
The city will not post signs for street cleaning, but residents can find their street’s schedule through various methods, including a searchable street list, email subscriptions, and an interactive map on the city’s website.
For those without internet access, residents can call Access St. John’s at 311 or 709-754-2489 to obtain their street cleaning dates or to request a paper copy.
The city says the important program not only ensures a cleaner city but also reduces debris in storm sewers and helps prevent damage to municipal infrastructure.
