The NL Federation of Labour is joining forces with CUPE and a number of local groups to advocate for accessible child care.
President Jessica McCormick made the announcement during CUPE’s annual convention at the Delta Hotel.
The Federation of Labour, CUPE, parent groups and allies will be establishing a local Child Care Now chapter, joining the numerous groups across Canada advocating for accessible and affordable public child care.
McCormick says while government has made progress recently by introducing $10-a-day child care, there is more work to be done.
She says there are “far too many” parents who have no child care provider and too many industry workers who do not earn adequate pay or benefits. She says increasing options helps parents return to the workforce and creates more jobs for an industry that is primarily female.
