The education minister says they will soon be able to release the details of a recruitment and retention plan that they have been working on with the Teachers’ Association.
Minister John Haggie made the announcement in the House of Assembly yesterday.
Haggie says he will be meeting with NLTA President Trent Langdon on Thursday on that topic.
He describes the plan as a “crucial underpinning.”
It won’t be the be all end all, but Haggie states it will be an important part of how they move forward.

PC Leader David Brazil (Left) and NDP Leader Jim Dinn (Right)
Opposition leader David Brazil says the NLTA has been calling for some of the changes needed for a year, and while it is great to talk about it he hasn’t seen any action from government.
So he’s taking a wait and see approach to the plan, but he doesn’t have much faith because he believes government is being reactive instead of proactive.
Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jim Dinn, a former NLTA President, is responding to concerns raised by the Association that communication with government has been lacking.
Dinn says communication with government is critical, and from what he’s been hearing in the House it’s clear that Haggie as “oblivious” to the lack of meaningful dialogue being had.
He states that Haggie needs to be less “arrogant” and focus on how to fix the issues facing teachers.
