Firefighters have knocked down a major industrial fire in the capital city’s east end.
The all-clear was given less than two hours after the blaze broke out at A1 Automotive shortly after 11:00 this morning. The fire forced the closure of East White Hills Road while firefighters attended to the blaze.
The smoke from the fire was a stark contrast to the thick fog blanketing the area.
Despite a few tense moments, crews were able to knock down the blaze.
On the back side of the building, crews utilized a tractor to pry open one of the garage doors.
Platoon Chief Michael Hall says the fire appears to have started in the garage area.

He says while it’s early in the investigation it seems as though there was some kind of an accident in the garage area.
In the meantime, Platoon Chief Hall tells VOCM News says more than 30 firefighters responded to the scene.
He says the fire was contained to the garage and mechanical side of the building. While damage is extensive, he’s praising firefighters for an “outstanding job” in containing the fire.
No injuries have been reported.
Things seem to have calmed down here a bit. Smoke still visibly coming from the building but not as much. Road still impassable by A1 Automltive. Waiting for an update from the fire chief @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/u8pM9vU7qn
