A new fitness studio is officially opening today in St. John’s.
AgeRight Health and Fitness has a particular focus, one that caters specifically to seniors.
Owner Shane Monahan says he was surprised to find that nobody was catering to that segment of the population, noting their programs are designed for persons 65 and older.
He says some routine exercises may not be the right fit for the older demographic.
“We offer services like assisted stretching for people who might not be able to stretch on their own,” he says. “We really try to cater to people within their own abilities.”
Seniors Minister John Abbott and St. John’s Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary were among those test-driving the new gym this morning.

The studio, located on the lower level of MacPherson Suites on Newtown Road, has been open for a few years.
Monahan says things were slow during the pandemic months, but have begun to pick back up.
