As the weather gets warmer and more people are spending time in the woods, the opposition is raising concerns about forest fire preparedness.
Exploits MHA Pleaman Forsey represents the area that was faced with a massive forest fire in July 2022.
He says memories of that fire are still fresh in the mind’s of residents in central and government must take steps to avoid a fire that large.
An access to information report found there were many days last summer where waterbomber crews in the province were not available. He says government must make it a priority to repair it’s fifth waterbomber, which has been out of commission. Once repaired, they must ensure the full fleet of aircraft and staff are on standby during the summer months.
Forsey is reminding everyone to abide by the provincial fire regulations and to check with their municipality before lighting a fire.
