A program which helps people transition out of the sex trade is receiving a boost from the federal government.
Thrive’s Blue Door Program works with people aged 14-29 who need support to get out of the sex trade and transition into safe housing and employment.
Thrive Executive Director Angela Crockwell says the three year federal grant will allow them to accept more referrals into their program.
She says there is a dire need for support in the province and they’ve often been forced to run overcapacity.
She says it’s hard to know the number of people working in the sex trade as many feel uncomfortable coming forward due to stigma. Since 2018, Blue Door has supported up to 73 people.
