A new phishing scam is circulating in some regions of Canada in an attempt to collect people’s data and cash.
The scam typically involves a text purporting to be from Canada Post claiming that a package is delayed in being delivered because it requires a signature from the client.
Local tech blogger, Kevin Andrews says the text provides a link for the intended victim to click on, that directs you to a bogus website masquerading as Canada Post, that allows you to enter your personal data.
It will ask for things like your name, date of birth, and address. He says Canada Post does not request personal information in that way, and when attempting to make a delivery, they always leave a delivery card at your address for pick up at the nearest Canada Post outlet.
Andrews notes that you can identify safe and secure websites by spotting “https” rather than just “http” at the start of an internet address, or the web browser will have a closed padlock or an unbroken key icon.
