The province is set to introduce amendments to both the Electrical Power Control Act and the Public Utilities Act intended to increase transparency and strengthen the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities.
However a fuel analyst says it would be very easy for the PUB to be more transparent on that side of the equation.
Industry, Energy, and Technology Minister Andrew Parsons says one of the most important changes is allowing the PUB to consider issues of environmental responsibility in addition to “least cost” options when applications come through.

Dan McTeague, President of Canadians for Affordable Energy, says the board should track and make known the benchmarks as is done in the rest of the country.
He says the market is very transparent but what isn’t transparent is trying to replicate what the market is doing. McTeague says the price-setting component of the P.UB is something whose time has come and gone.
