Four-hundred and fifty-five tickets were issued in the province during Canada Road Safety Week.
The week-long campaign focused on the theme “Take the Wheel,” emphasizing motorists’ responsibility for safe driving in the province.
RNC officers in collaboration with RCMP-NL and Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Traffic Enforcement conducted speed enforcement, traffic safety checkpoints, licensing and equipment compliance inspections, sobriety checks, and other traffic safety initiatives.
Speeding offences were the most common violation.
A total of 18 vehicles were seized; five related to excessive speeds, six related to impaired driving, and seven vehicles for various offences related to licensing and insurance.
The excessive speed and impaired operation offences resulted in a suspended driver’s license in each case.
