SIRT-NL is continuing its investigation into a police shooting incident yesterday that left one man dead, and sent an RNC officer to hospital for treatment of injuries.

The incident played out at the Regatta Plaza building in St. John’s. As a result, a number of offices in the building were closed to the public yesterday including the Employment Centre and Immigration offices.

SIRT-NL automatically takes over the investigation in a situation involving the discharge of a police sidearm.

The shooting occurred shortly before 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning. The victim has not been identified by officials pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information or video footage from the area of Regatta Plaza at the corner of New Cove Road and Elizabeth Avenue between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Monday is asked to contact investigators at 738-7478 or by email at sirtinfo@sirtnl.ca.
