A fundraiser is happening this afternoon at O’Reilly’s Irish Newfoundland Pub in downtown St. John’s in support of those affected by the recent wildfires in Alberta and Nova Scotia.

The event will feature performances by Fergus Brown O’Byrne, Darcy Scott, Shanda Murphy, Luke Power, the Port-aux-Poutines, and Alex Taylor.

Taylor, who helped organize the event, is also co-hosting it alongside Ricky Dalton. He has family and friends in those provinces personally and wanted to do something to help those who are affected.

Taylor says it has been “wild” seeing the situations unfold, noting that it “really hits home.”

The event is taking place from noon until 5:00 today with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.
