The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reminding the public of measures that should be taken to help keep children safe this summer now that school is out.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says nicer weather may lead some drivers to speed up, but says that people need to be mindful of speed limits and be vigilant of their surroundings.
He is encouraging parents to talk with their kids about the risks of being near roadways, and to be blunt with them when talking about what could happen.
Cadigan says the RNC will have increased patrols this summer.
He says they will be focusing on areas where children are known to frequent, and they will be working with communities to ensure they are safe.
