A PhD student at Memorial University is collecting data involving genetics in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Janelle Skeard says the genetics found in the province are unique and further research into various groups could result in a number of benefits for sectors such as health care.
Skeard understands some people may be hesitant to participate in a genetic study, but is hoping to hear from various groups of people in the province.
She says it can be tricky because the study of genetics is not just focused on one individual—it also gives insight into their family and even their community. Skeard stresses the importance of community participation in order to use genetics as a viable resource.
Two zoom sessions will be taking place in July. Anyone looking to participate must sign up by Friday, June 30 by emailing Janelle.skeard@mun.ca.
