The fire chief in Come By Chance is reflecting on the loss of a valued member during one of the most difficult calls the department has ever responded to.
Last week, the volunteer fire department took to social media to share the loss of firefighter Cory Smith.
Fire Chief Duane Antle says their hearts sank on Wednesday night when the department responded to the medical call that led to the death of one of their own.
Antle speaks highly of Smith, both as a person and as a dedicated community member who served on the fire department and local Lions Club.
He says Smith was never one who liked any attention for serving his community. He did it because helping others was the right thing to do.
Antle says they plan to honour Smith by continuing to serve the people of Come By Chance.
He says they will always consider him as a role model for the community, and continuing the good work of the department is what he would have wanted.
