A local tech blogger says the newest social media platform attempting to give Twitter a run for its money could be jeopardizing your privacy.
Threads, created by Meta, hit app stores across the globe last week, gaining a record-breaking nearly 100 million users in the matter of days.
Kevin Andrews describes the platform as similar to Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook all in one.
He says there are pros and cons to the site—including the fact that sharing your thoughts, photos, and videos could cost you your privacy.
While that’s not unusual for social media sites, privacy regulations in the European Union prohibits residents from signing up.
The app collects information on users health, financial, contact, location, purchases, search history, along with “other sensitive information”. Andrews calls it a “buyer beware” to users or anyone thinking of joining the platform.
