There is word of a scam making the rounds involving fraudulent agreements to do home renovation projects.
The RNC’s Economic Crime Unit says people are approaching homeowners with offers to complete work related to property management of residential properties, and requesting payment or a deposit in advance of work being completed. After receiving the money, the person does not return to complete the actual work.
In each case reported to police, the scammer had targeted senior citizens.
RNC are stressing the importance of checking references, confirming identification and contact information of service providers, and refraining from making payments in advance of service.
Anyone who has information connected to the scam can contact the Constabulary 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers 1-888-222-8477.
