The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is warning that scams involving property maintenance are very much active in the metro region.
The RNC issued a public warning recently about such scams, indicating that the fraudsters are making offers to do work around a person’s home only to make off with the deposit and never return.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says a new iteration of that scam has popped up in recent days.
He says they have received numerous reports of a new scam involving people offering to do driveway sealing, specifically in the capital city’s east end.
Cadigan says seniors are mainly being targeted, and that the scammers are going door to door.
He says preventative measures include asking for references and contact information from the contractor. As well, he recommends not giving any sort of payment until the work is complete.
