A 59-year-old man has been charged with impaired after a boater had to be rescued from the Atlantic ocean over the weekend.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Bay Roberts RCMP received a report of two men in need of assistance in a vessel off the shore of Marysvale.
The Coast Guard was sent to the scene, while Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue and the Avalon North Wolverines were on standby.
Police and local boaters helped the Coast Guard locate the boat. One of the men was in the water and unable to get back in the boat. Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident.
After the man was rescued, the Coast Guard brought them back to shore where they were assessed by paramedics. The man who was found overboard was taken to hospital in Carbonear for further treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
Meanwhile, the operator of the vessel was arrested for impaired and taken to the Bay Roberts detachment where he blew over the legal limit.
He was released to appear in court at a later date.
