The community of Forteau in Labrador is getting a new community centre.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister John Abbott announced funding for the project in the town yesterday.
It’s expected to cost about $2.5 million. Abbott says the province is putting up $1.3 million while the town will make up the difference.
Labrador Affairs Minister Lisa Dempster says community centres in many coastal towns in Labrador act as the “core of the community” noting that everything happens there including weddings, socials, and meetings.
She says such centres are “extremely valued” noting that they are important to mental and physical well-being.
