As Memorial University gears up for the 2025 Canada Summer games it also has another milstone on its mind.

2025 marks MUN’s 100th anniversary, and as Canada Games Lead Jordan Wright explains they will be looking at ways to integrate those two events. Specifically looking at what the Games has deemed their “unofficial sport” of pin trading amongst athletes, staff, and volunteers.

Wright says the university is actively looking at ways to incorporate their anniversary into the games. He says it is likely that MUN will be integrating their 100th anniversary into their pin.

According to the Canada Games website, pins have become an important part of the socialization aspect of the games.

They say people actively seek out others to trade with to try to bring home as many pins representing the other provinces as possible.
