The Last Post Fund is asking the public for help in locating and identifying the unmarked graves of veterans.
The Last Post Fund aims to recognize and mark the graves of those who served in wartime.
Leo O’Brien of the Last Post Fund NL Branch says they have a summer student hired to go through cemeteries looking for unmarked graves.
“But they’re difficult to find, very difficult to find.” He says it takes a lot of research, and he’s encouraging anyone who is aware of a veteran lying in an unmarked grave to contact the Last Post Fund through their website.
A ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Belvedere Cemetery in St. John’s to recognize the unmarked grave of Sergeant Joseph Corbett, a member of the Newfoundland Constabulary who died in 1914. The Last Post Fund recently recognized the wartime service of the Newfoundland Constabulary and deemed members eligible for the Unmarked Graves Program.
