Government is reminding people to be prepared for extreme weather, with several active tropical storms and others expected to form in the Atlantic basin.
The Canadian Hurricane Centre is monitoring Tropical Storm Franklin in the Caribbean Sea.
This storm is expected to become a hurricane by the weekend as it tracks up the Atlantic Ocean and into our neck of the woods.
Whether Franklin will have any impact on this province remains to be seen.
However, given the extreme weather seen in the province recently, such as the central wildfires last summer and the catastrophic Hurricane Fiona in the fall, Justice and Public Safety Minister John Hogan is reminding people to be prepared by having an emergency kit on hand.
He explains that it doesn’t take long to put one together and it is good to have on hand in the event that it is needed.
Activity in the tropical Atlantic continues to increase today as we now have 3 named storms to go along with 2 areas of potential storm development. With Gert, we stand at 8 storms so far where the average to this date is about 5. #GetPrepared. pic.twitter.com/Qbh1b85Rqi
