The City of St. John’s wants to be involved in conversations surrounding rent control in the province.
Danny Breen says conversations around rent control are not happening in city offices because it’s not their jurisdiction. Rather, they are focused on working with the other levels on on various programs to address the issues.
That said, Breen believes rent control is something that does need to be addressed and they want to be part of that conversation.
He says those policies will also have an impact on the development of properties, noting that the government need to do more to address the availability of land for affordable housing, such as crown lands.
