The RCMP is warning drivers to be safe as the highways and roads get busier on the long weekend.
It’s Labour Day weekend across the province, with thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians hitting the highway and hightailing it out of town for some peace and relaxation.
With an increase in traffic comes the potential for accidents. RCMP Corporal Jolene Garland, Media Relations, caught up with VOCM ahead of Labour Day weekend to discuss safety tips and road awareness.
She urges drivers to slow down and follow the rules of the road despite the urge to get a kick-start to their long-weekend.
Garland also urged caution to motorists in the coming days as kids head back to school after the summer break.
She notes pedestrian traffic will be high and for drivers to be cautious in school zones with children headed back to school.
