Fans of the one and only Jimmy Buffett are mourning his passing at the age of 76, including distant relations in this province.
The “Margaritaville” singer-songwriter died Friday surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.” according to a statement on his website.
Buffett created beach bum soft rock with a Caribbean flavor and turned that celebration of loafing into a billion-dollar empire of restaurants, resorts and frozen concoctions.
The song ”Margaritaville”, by far his biggest hit, was released in 1977 and spent 22 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100.
It became a seaside standard and inspired generations of fans known as “Parrotheads” to celebrate easy living.
What some may not know is Buffett’s grandfather was born on the southwest coast of Newfoundland at Rose Blanche.

What’s more, he actually visited the town—by accident—while on a fishing trip years ago.
He told the story while visiting our sister station K-Rock studios in 2019.
Buffett said as a pilot he had already become familiar with the province during stopovers before crossing the Atlantic.
