The federal NDP are joining the FFAW’s call for support for snow crab harvesters in this province.

NDP Fisheries Critic, Lisa Marie Barron, and NDP Employment Critic Daniel Blaikie are calling on Ottawa to lower the required hours needed to qualify for Employment Insurance.

They say that recent changes to EI and a difficult snow crab season has threatened workers from this province who rely on the industry. They say with a 71 per cent global decline in snow crab prices, workers have lost significant work and pay.

They’re calling for the Liberals to lower the hours needed to qualify for EI.
