A vacant building in Grand Bank filled with smoke yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters from the town rushed to the former CKYQ radio station on the main highway between Grand Bank and Fortune just after 4:30.

There was smoke on the main floor and heavy smoke in the basement. The fire was extinguished and the case passed over to RCMP for further investigation.

The building has had several owners since being a radio station but is now in disrepair and hasn’t had electricity to it for years.

Crews are battling a structure fire between Grand Bank and Fortune.

The highway is closed due to a fire at the old Q Radio Station, located along the highway just outside of Grand Bank.

Drivers are asked to be patient while firefighters from Fortune and Grand Bank are battling the flames.
