A police officer was johnny-on-the-spot downtown St. John’s yesterday afternoon to unravel an armed robbery.
The RNC officer was doing an unrelated investigation at a store when a staff member ran to the back of the store yelling that the store had just been robbed. The officer processed the information, reviewed the CCTV footage and broadcast the description of the suspect over the police radio.
It didn’t take long to get to the bottom of the case. An hour later, officers working in the downtown area located a man who was out walking and matched the description of the robbery suspect.
The 20-year-old was arrested for armed robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breaching probation. He spent the night in the lockup.
