The contributions and achievements of nine of the province’s seniors have been recognized with the 2023 Seniors of Distinction awards.
Family and friends were on hand as Premier Andrew Furey and Minister Paul Pike presented each recipient with their award, and then listened and laughed along as each person reflected on their work and initiatives in which they have been involved.
One such story came from Joyce Morgan of Port de Grave.
Morgan has been involved with many events over the years, including the annual boat lighting ceremony.
Morgan shares one story about her granddaughter, Addison, and an interaction with her teacher while visiting her school.
The child told her teacher that Morgan was the mayor of Port de Grave. When she tried to correct her, Addison replied “yes you are nan… you’re the boss of the boat lighting… and you’re always on TV.”
