The St. John’s Palestine Action Committee is organizing a Vigil for Gaza at the Colonial Building in St. John’s today at 3 p.m.

Attendees are invited to bring flowers and/or teddy bears to commemorate the over 4000 children who have died during the struggle.

Representatives from the committee have called on Seamus O’Regan and Gudie Hutchings, the federal Ministers from Newfoundland and Labrador, to end what they call “their complicity in the ongoing violence and to speak out for peace and justice.”

“We come together as a community to mourn and to continue to call on the government of Canada to call for an immediate ceasefire.” says Majed Khraishi of the St. John’s Palestine Action Committee. “While the atrocities continue, we take comfort in the fact that so many Canadians have come out in the hundreds of thousands to show their support for a ceasefire and justice for Palestinians, and over 200,000 have signed an online Parliamentary petition calling for a ceasefire.”

“Canada should end its complicity and advocate for a just and durable resolution to this crisis, in which all Israelis and Palestinians might realise peace, dignity, security, and self-determination,” says Sobia Shaikh of the Action Committee.
