Council has agreed to rethink plans for three sections of shared use paths throughout the capital city.
A new extension would see the path extend from Penney Crescent to the Torbay Road/Gleneyre Street intersection, providing a connection from Airport Heights to the Paul Reynolds Community Centre.
There will be a connection from Columbus Drive down to the Bowring Park T’Railway, and part of the Portugal Cove Road-Logy Bay Road path will be alongside Kenny’s Pond to allow for easier access to places of interest.
Councillor Maggie Burton says three main things were considered following public consultation.
Safety concerns were expressed for pedestrians and cyclists with the new roundabout coming to the intersection of Major’s Path and Portugal Cove Road. Public suggested speed reduction measures for traffic near Kenny’s Pond and consistent engagement with residents in the affected neighbourhoods.
City staff will now move forward in creating a set design for the three routes.
