Enjoy the nice weather while you can as things will turn messy come this evening.
Things will be calm today, but it’ll be a mixed bag of rain and high winds for the island and parts of Labrador with several weather warnings issued.
Environment Canada meteorologist Ali Jalali says most the island will see anywhere from 20 – 40 mm of rain, but it’ll be a different story on the south and southwest coast.
Around 50 mm is forecasted for parts of the coast from Port aux Basques to Connaigre, but given the strong southeasterlies, areas inland and over higher terrain could see up to 80 mm.
While rain amounts vary, the winds will be howling right across the board at around 80 km/h. Meanwhile, strong southeasterlies will gust up to 170 km/h in the Wreckhouse.
Around 15 – 25 cm of snow is in the forecast for parts of central and southeast Labrador. It’ll be close to a whiteout for the Postville region.
A storm warning is in effect from Eagle River to Postville as snowfall amounts will be met with winds of at least 60 km/h, which could make for blizzard like conditions.
